Avoiding Contract Drafting Landmines


Jon Hogue, Esq., Murray, Hogue & Lannis, LLP

Mr. Hogue, managing partner of the Pittsburgh law firm Murray, Hogue & Lannis, has been designated a Super Lawyer based on peer recognition for his professional achievement as a business litigation attorney.

 

For more than three decades he has represented both large and small clients in all manner of commercial matters. He serves as general counsel to various mid-size companies, providing counseling on all aspects of their legal and business issues.

He is actively involved in both corporate and individual planning. Mr. Hogue also has vast experience trying complex commercial and contract cases, and has appeared in numerous courts, including the United States Supreme Court.

 

Mr. Hogue has served as an Adjunct Professor of Law at Carnegie Mellon University. For many years, he has been and is involved in a wide range of community service. Among other things, he is a past President of the Board of Directors for Neighborhood Legal Services of Allegheny County. He is frequent lecturer on contract law and ethics and recently co-authored with Tim Murray, Corbin on Pennsylvania Contracts (2018) and Corbin on Ohio Contracts (2019).

 

Mr. Hogue is a graduate of Harvard University (cum laude) and of the University Of Pittsburgh School Of Law, where he served as Executive Articles Editor of the Law Review. Jon and Dr. John Murray were law partners and friends for over twenty-five years.

 

 

Timothy Murray, Esq., Murray, Hogue & Lannis, LLP

Mr. Murray, a partner at Murray, Hogue & Lannis in Pittsburgh, has represented numerous businesses and individuals in all manner of contract transactional matters and disputes.

 

He is the author of revised Volume One of the landmark Corbin on Contracts (Rev. ed. 2018), the most influential legal treatise America has produced (cited by judicial opinions across America in excess of 10,000 times).

 

He has written extensively on contract law matters and has conducted numerous contract law seminars in various states. He serves on the editorial advisory board for Lexis Practice Advisor Journal.

 

Mr. Murray has represented, among many others, General Motors Corporation, Bayer, Covestro, Avery Dennison, Georgia-Pacific Corporation, Alcoa, Nissan North America, companies of the Marmon Group, Mazda Motors of America, General Reinsurance, Lanxess Corporation, TWA, Kawasaki Motors, Nova Chemicals, and Electrolux.

 

Mr. Murray helped to rewrite the suggested Pennsylvania jury instructions for contract law.  A national expert in contract law, Mr. Murray writes the biannual supplements to the 15-volume treatise, Corbin on Contracts (Lexis-Nexis).

 

He received both his B.A., summa cum laude and his J.D. from the University of Pittsburgh.
