Matrimonial Law Basics 2019


Ms. Michelle L. Haskin, Esq., McNamee Lochner PC

Michelle L. Haskin joined the firm in 1996 and became a principal in 2004. She practices exclusively in the field of matrimonial and family law, concentrating on matrimonial and family law, custody, domestic violence, and interstate issues.
 

Having been admitted to practice in New York in 1995, Michelle has extensive experience in representing clients in both Supreme and Family Court; as well as negotiations of resolutions of these matters.

Michelle is a past President of the Capital District Women's Bar Association, and is chair of the Women's Bar Association of the State of New York's matrimonial committee.
 

Michelle is the recipient of the 2015 New York State Bar Association's Attorney Professionalism Award.

Michelle received her J.D., cum laude from Albany Law School and her B.A., magna cum laude from Syracuse University.

Lauren has practiced exclusively in the field of Family/Matrimonial Law since 2009.

She has extensive experience representing clients in separation, divorce, child custody, child visitation, paternity, child support, maintenance (alimony), pre-nuptial and post-nuptial agreements, and post-judgment enforcement and modification matters.

Lauren is also trained in the practice of Collaborative Divorce – a non-adversarial method to divorce that is focused on achieving a civil, respectful and fair divorce outside of court.

She is committed to pro bono and volunteers her time as a pro bono attorney with The Legal Project's Domestic Violence Connection where she volunteers her time providing legal representation to victims of domestic violence in family court matters. She also volunteers as an attorney for the monthly legal clinics that are hosted by The Legal Project.


Lauren’s other involvements in the legal and non-legal community include: serving on several committees for the New York State Bar Association and the Capital District Women’s Bar Association, sitting on the Board of the Collaborative Divorce Association of the Capital District and the Board of the Shaker Heritage Society, and volunteering her time as a foster parent for a local dog rescue.

Barbara King is a partner at Tully Rinckey PLLC and heads one of the firm’s largest legal departments in Albany. She is experienced in representing New Yorkers in proceedings relating to divorce, separation, equitable distribution, annulment, child support, child custody, spousal maintenance and adoption.

 

For well over three decades, Barbara has been representing parents, spouses and other parties from Long Island to the Capital Region, as well as clients nationally and internationally, in a wide range of family and matrimonial matters.  She practiced on Long Island for several years before relocating to the Capital Region.

 

Prior to joining Tully Rinckey PLLC, Barbara held a principal role at a longstanding Capital Region law firm, where she focused her practice on family and matrimonial law.

 

Barbara also works with domestic violence initiatives, assists Legal Project clinics and offers her services in pro se matrimonial clinics for indigent people all at no charge.

She is a member of the New York State Bar Association and a past Board member of the Schenectady County Bar Association, of which she is the current Chair of the Pro Bono Committee. In this capacity, she instituted a NYSBA Award Winning Modest Means panel program that offers reduced legal fee services to low-income litigants with divorce and family law cases in Schenectady County. She is a past delegate to the New York State Bar Association.

 

Barbara earned her JD from the City University of New York at Queens College and graduated Valedictorian from John Jay University.

Lorraine R. Silverman is a with Partner with Copps DiPaola Silverman, PLLC. 

She practices exclusively in the field of matrimonial and family law and represents individuals in the negotiation and litigation of all family law matters, including, but not limited to divorce, child custody, child support, spousal support, domestic violence matters, intimate partner companion animal (“pet”) custody disputes, intimate partner real / personal property disputes, and prenuptial and postnuptial agreements.

She has extensive experience representing clients in both Supreme and Family Court. As part of her practice, Ms. Silverman also serves as an Attorney for Children in Albany County. 

In addition to her private practice, Ms. Silverman serves on a number of Committees, Boards, and participates in other volunteer civic activities throughout the community. For example, Ms. Silverman serves as Chair of the New York State Bar Association’s Committee on Children & the Law.

Henry F. Zwack is an Acting Justice of the Supreme Court, Rensselaer County, and Judge of the Court of Claims, appointed by Governor George E. Pataki in 2006, and reappointed in 2015 by Governor Andrew Cuomo for a term to 2023.  He has assigned cases in Rensselaer and Columbia County.

 

Prior to appointment to the Court of Claims, Judge Zwack served as Acting Commissioner and was the Executive Deputy Commissioner and General Counsel of the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services. 

 

His prior public service includes serving as Rensselaer County Executive, Chair of the Rensselaer County Legislature, Counsel for State Senator Owen H. Johnson, and Counsel to the State Senate Committees on Environmental Conservation, Social Services and Civil Service and Pensions. 

 

Previously, he also served as Town Attorney for Stephentown and New Lebanon.  Judge Zwack has also maintained a private law practice, and was of counsel to Featherstonhaugh, Wiley & Clyne.

 

He is also a member of the Stephentown Volunteer Fire Department.

 

Judge Zwack is a graduate of Siena College and Albany Law School.  He and his wife, Laura, reside in Stephentown, and are the parents of three adult sons.
