Total Credits: 3.5 Professional Practice
In this program, a panel of seasoned professionals, including practicing attorneys, title insurance counsel, a title abstractor and a licensed land surveyor, will address a variety of issues that many real property attorneys will regularly confront. Framed within the context of an abstract of title and a land survey – the tools that comprise the foundation for all real estate conveyancing – the panel will discuss a full range of title issues, including the nature of the abstract and survey themselves; legal descriptions and boundary issues; tenancies; chains of title; liens and encumbrances; bankruptcy; capacity of parties; encroachments and overlaps; water rights; legal access, streets and rights of way; and title insurance. Reference will also be made to pertinent statutes and legal decisions.
Topics to Be Covered Include:
• Preparation of an abstract of title
• Overview of the survey
• Legal descriptions and boundaries of land
